Alpha Micro Components Delivers Industry’s First Distributed KVM Remote Management Tool: Lantronix SecureLinx Spider
Alpha Micro Components, a leading international distributor of electronic components, today announced it will offer Lantronix SecureLinx Spider™. The Spider is the industry’s first “Distributed KVM” (keyboard, video and mouse) converter that enables secure, remote management of servers over an IP network.
Spider is a cable-friendly, single-port solution that is small enough to fit in one hand. It is ideal for environments with limited space and locations with isolated or widely distributed servers, such as test-labs, campuses, branch offices and multi-floored facilities. Spider provides cost-effective scalability, allowing administrators to easily add incremental ports as required. Users have a 1-to-1 remote access to a single server providing guaranteed access. This effectively lowers the price-per-remote server, which is considerably lower than standard IP-enabled KVM switch offerings.
Spider’s unique dual Ethernet port design, coupled with Lantronix SwitchPort+™ technology, provides a flexible and cost-effective “add as you grow” scalability. The Spider can be cable-supported from the back of the server and its innovative low-power design allows it to be server-powered. The Spider supports remote management of Windows™-based and Linux/Unix servers, without requiring additional client software. A comprehensive range of software and security features – such as RADIUS, LDAP, Active Directory remote authentication support and secure data encryption – are included as standard.
In addition to the keyboard, video, mouse, and primary Ethernet ports, the Spider also includes a serial interface and second Ethernet port, allowing a hardware connection to all commonly used out-of-band (OOB) management interfaces. As part of the award-winning SecureLinx family available from Alpha Micro, Spider can be easily integrated into a total remote OOB management strategy. These include serial console management (SecureLinx SLC); remote power management (SecureLinx SLP); and consolidated management access including auto-discovery, consolidated logging and logical device grouping (SecureLinx SLM).
Christos Papakyriacou, Managing Director, Alpha Micro Components, commented: “Lantronix has a long tradition of designing inventive IT management products and the revolutionary SecureLinx Spider is no exception. The Spider is a flexible, scalable and affordable CAT5-based remote KVM solution designed to provide IT managers just what they need for secure, real-time control of the remote server. With the large number of remote offices spread around the world, Spider has addressed the growing need of geographically dispersed applications with a new category of remote management equipment.“
