ODIN-W2 - Combination compact dual mode Bluetooth & dual band Wi-Fi modules

The ODIN-W2 series of modules support dual mode (Classic & BLE) Bluetooth and dual band (2.4GHz & 5GHz) Wi-Fi, making them ideal for Internet of Things (IoT) applications

The ODIN-W2 is a compact and powerful stand-alone multiradio module, designed for Internet-of-Things gateway applications. The module is complete with embedded Bluetooth stack, Wi-Fi driver, IP stack, and an application for wireless data transfer, all configurable using AT-commands. The wireless support includes dual-mode Bluetooth v4.0 (BR/EDR and Bluetooth low energy) and dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and full 5 GHz bands).

The module supports point-to-point and point-to-multipoint configurations and can have concurrent Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. It can operate in Wireless Multidrop or Extended Data Mode for advanced multipoint capabilities. Operation in Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) mode gives the host a UART-based IP interface for advanced use cases. The firmware provides support for RMII with micro Access Point and iAP2.

Using the EVK-ODIN-W262 mbed evaluation kit, the modules' integrated Cortex M4F MCU can be accessed for integration of the customer application using ARM mbed and to save external MCU, crystals, and PCB area in an end product. Additionally, interfaces like SPI, I2 C, CAN, and ADC are made available through the software libraries provided by the ARM mbed development tool.

The module is professional grade with an extended temperature range and is radio type approved for multiple countries, which reduces the integration work and cost.

u-blox offers two types of evaluation kits for the ODIN-W2 multi-radio modules:


The EVK‑W262U makes the evaluation of the stand‑alone multiradio module ODIN‑W262 easy. The USB adapter board connects to a PC where a virtual COM port is installed. The evaluation kit is powered through the USB connector. The s‑center graphical user interface simplifies configuration and provides tools for performance evaluation and firmware upgrades.

The EVK‑ODIN‑W2 is designed for use with ARM mbed and is a complete starter kit that allows quick prototyping of a variety of applications for Internet of Things. The support for dual‑band Wi‑Fi, dual‑mode Bluetooth, and Ethernet enables easy connectivity for a wide range of applications.

Additional hardware interfaces such as CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, ADC, and GPIOs are available using ARM mbed. The EVK‑ODIN‑W2 can also be used to evaluate the pre‑loaded u‑blox software suite using the s‑center tool on a PC.
