WiPort - Dual Port Embedded Wireless Device Server

A compact, integrated hardware and software module, WiPort® enables you to build wireless networking into virtually any electronic device with serial or Ethernet capability. With WiPort your products can be wirelessly accessed and controlled over a network or the Internet!

The WiPort functions independently of a PC, providing a complete hardware and software solution for adding wireless connectivity to your Serial devices.

Within a single compact package, this powerful device server comes with an 802.11BG wireless connection, a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet transceiver, a reliable and proven operating system stored in flash memory, an embedded Web server, a full TCP/IP protocol stack and Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) security. Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is offered in the next firmware release ensuring secure compatibility with any network. WiPort is the solution for designers looking to migrate an existing serial product to 802.11b/g without the complexity of chip-level implementation and without the hassle of accommodating PC-based concepts.

All the protocol, base-band and RF issues are dealt with inside the metal can - you just add a 40way connector to your design and choose where to locate the trailing SMA bulkhead connector for the antenna. A range of antennae are currently offered by Alpha Micro to suit most applications, ranging from 157mm dipole swivel mount to miniature fixed helical types.

Based on the Xport family of embedded device servers, WiPort too can be used with Device Installer for detection and config and also Redirector - a PC based application for creating Virtual Com Ports (VCP's) to the embedded device, often meaning that your product software remains unchanged. Both applications are provided on CD with the Evaluation kit which is the best way to see how easy it is to move to 802.11b/g.
