The FTDI FT4232H is a quad channel
device allowing one USB port to connect to four separate
interfaces without a USB hub chip. Each channel may be
independently configured to support UART, FIFO (asynchronous)
or, by using the Multi Purpose Synchronous Serial Engine
(MPSSE - available on 2 of the channels), USB to I2C, 2SPI, JTAG or
other clocked serial interfaces. Also available are MCU
Emulation and bitbang modes.
The FT4232H device supports UART
transfer rates up to 12MBaud and asynchronous FIFO speeds up
to 10Mbyte/s.
As with previous generations of
FTDI ICs, comprehensive and free driver support is offered for
most industry standard operating systems such as Windows,
Linux and MAC OSX. This allows developers to focus on their
end application rather than spending additional time
developing drivers.
The FT4232H is available in Pb-free
(RoHS compliant) 64-pin LQFP and QFN packages.

The FT4232H Mini Module is a
USB-to-serial/MPSSE interface converter module based on the FT4232H
IC. The FT4232H bridge chip supports USB Hi-Speed transfers and
handles all the USB protocol. The development module provides
access to the quad channel serial / MPSSE converter interfaces via
a set of 2 double row 0.1" pitch male connectors. It is ideal
for development purposes to quickly prove functionality of adding
USB to a target design.
Versatile Range of
Evaluation Kits
FTDI
evaluation modules and kits represent an quick and
easy introduction to understanding USB. In most cases you you can
be up and running in less than 30 minutes.
Volume pricing is also available
which is flexible enough to allow you to embed a module within your
design for minimal time-to-market turnaround.
Custom PID service
For volume applications Alpha Micro can provide a Product
Identifier (PID) under the FTDI "umbrella scheme" that can be used
to personalise a design based on the FT232 so that your end user
will see your product and brand name in the Windows Install Wizard
for extra brand awareness.
There is an added benefit that the driver is tagged to your
hardware and cannot be used by other devices. This feature can only
be used with FTDI chips, the Vendor ID (VID) must remain
untouched. Customers should use MPROG to program this feature and any other
changes to the default settings within the EEPROM (which must be
fitted if this feature is required). MPROG is free to use and performs the
programming tasks over the USB.
