FT2232D - Dual USB UART/FIFO IC

The FT2232D is the 3rd generation of FTDI's popular USB UART/FIFO family. This device features two multi-purpose UART/FIFO controllers which can be configured individually in several different modes.

As well as a UART interface, FIFO interface and Bit-Bang IO modes of the 2nd generation FT232B and FT245B devices, the FT2232 offers a variety of additional new modes of operation, including a Multi-Protocol Synchronous Serial Engine (MPSSE) interface which is designed specifically for synchronous serial protocols such as JTAG, I2C and SPI.

Behaving in the same manner as the FT232B or FT245B devices from FTDI, the FT2232 combines 2 FIFO/UART channels into one USB port to create a composite device with amazing versatility. Users can 'pick & mix' UART's or FIFO's and use either the Virtual Com Port (VCP) drivers or the DLL-based D2XX drivers for each channel allowing total flexibilty.

The FT2232 makes JTAG, I2C, SPI and opto-isolated interfaces possible via the MPSSE engine and related development boards.

The DLP-2232ML-G utilizes FTDI's third-generation USB UART/FIFO I.C., the FT2232D. This low-cost, RoHS compliant development tool features two Multi-Purpose UART/FIFO controllers that can be configured individually in several different modes.

In addition to the UART interface, FIFO interface, and Bit-Bang IO modes of the second-generation FT232BM and FT245BM devices, the FT2232D offers a variety of additional modes of operation including a Multi-Protocol Synchronous Serial Engine interface designed specifically for synchronous serial protocols such as JTAG and SPI bus.

Custom PID service
For volume applications Alpha Micro can provide a Product Identifier (PID) under the FTDI "umbrella scheme" that can be used to personalise a design based on the FT232Bx so that your end user will see your product name in the Windows Install Wizard for extra brand awareness.

There is an added benefit that the driver is tagged to your hardware and cannot be used by other devices. This feature can only be used with FTDI chips, the Vendor ID (VID) must remain untouched. Please contact our sales team for more information on this facility.

Customers should use MPROG to program this feature and any other changes to the default settings within the EEPROM (which must be fitted if this feature is required). MPROG is free to use and performs the programming tasks over the USB.
